![]() ![]() ![]() Cities in Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, and King counties became recognized as hubs for successful egg farming businesses. A major industry association was created to assist egg farmers, Washington State University opened a popular school in Puyallup to teach would-be egg farmers, and the industry produced tens of millions of eggs annually for shipment throughout the world. That changed in 1915, when enterprising farmers created what would be described as Washington state's golden age of poultry farming. For nearly 30 years following Washington statehood, egg farming was a cottage industry comprised of small, family-owned operations tending to small flocks of chickens.
